1 Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest
1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the meeting of the Children, Young People and Education Committee.
1.2 There were no apologies.
2 Motion under Standing Order 17.42(ix) to resolve to exclude the public for items 3, 6, 7 and 8
2.1 The motion was agreed.
3 Pupil absence - findings from the engagement with parents and young people
3.1 Members discussed the findings from in
engagement report. They agreed that it should be shared with the
Minister for Education and Welsh Language and the Deputy Minister
for Health and Wellbeing.
4 Pupil absence - evidence session 7
4.1 The Committee heard evidence from the Minister for Education and Welsh Language.
4.2 The Minister agreed to provide information on whether school absence data and intelligence on school absence is utilised as an early marker for mental illness amongst young people.
4.2 When available, the Minister agreed to share with the Committee the evaluation of the funding that was made available in 2021-22 for local authorities to provide additional emotional, mental health and well-being support to young people.
4.3 The Minister agreed to attend a future
Committee meeting to discuss the support provided for young carers
in school.
5 Paper to note
5.1 The paper was noted.
5.1 Peer on peer sexual harassment among learners
6 Pupil absence - consideration of the evidence
6.1 The Committee considered the evidence it
had heard in the previous sessions.
7 Peer on peer sexual harassment among learners - consideration of the draft report
7.1 Subject to amendments to be agreed
electronically outside of Committee, the Committee agreed the draft
report.
8 Mental Health in Higher Education - consideration of the scope and approach
8.1 The Committee agreed the approach to the inquiry, subject to some additional stakeholders for oral evidence.
